Full Brutal is the first book I’ve read by Kristopher Triana. I’ve seen his name before so I was interested in checking out some of his work. As a member of The Splatter Club I saw a great opportunity when they announced a group read for Full Brutal. The only thing is the read was supposed to last a whole month, and I was so sucked into this book I read it in about a week.
As the description says the book is about Kim White, star cheerleader and all around popular teen. She can have anything she wants, any guy she wants, but she hates the life she leads. In an attempt to change things in her life she embarks on a path that becomes more violent, disturbing, and, as the title implies, more brutal as the book moves along.
I like Triana’s writing style, he sucks you in and keeps the pacing at a speed that keeps you interested. There was plenty of bloodshed and violence, which makes for a pretty fun book for me. I am definitely curious to check out some of his work and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes hardcore horror and splatterpunk.

The Night Manager is currently my favorite Jeff O’Brien book. That may change when I read his next book, but for now this is number one. I love reading Jeff’s books, they’re usually gory, funny and sexual, with over the top violence and big bosoms. Which is to say it’s all right up my alley.
Doyle is our every-man, living in a trailer with crappy red neck neighbors, banging hot goth chicks whenever he can, and working his life away behind a meat counter in a grocery store. The thing about Doyle is he’s good at his job, he’s damn good. When the current night manager quits Doyle gets promoted into the job. That’s when all hell begins to break loose.
At a certain point while reading this I was reminded of Stephen Kings The Mist. We have people trapped in a store while some unknown force is outside, and its safer to stay in than go out and meet it. But that’s where the similarities end. Jeff O’Brien takes us on an adventure as we, along with the survivors from the grocery store, follow our unlikely hero Doyle as he fights to get away from an evil force and into the pants of a hot goth chick.
The Night manager is a fast-paced, action packed read with great, and funny, dialogue. Recommended for anybody that likes books.
